Case study · Retail business
A stronger operation, positioned for sale
₹8 lakh above prior offers
Focus: Inventory · supply chain · exit readiness
The situation
The owner wanted to sell. The offers coming in were low, and each one came with the same unspoken reason: the operation looked heavy. Capital was sitting in stock that moved slowly, and the supply model depended on distant vendors with long lead times.
A buyer does not only value revenue. A buyer values how easily the business can be taken over and run. On that measure, this one was asking to be discounted.
What we did
- 01Separated stock that genuinely sold from stock that was quietly holding cash, and cleared the second group deliberately rather than in a panic.
- 02Built local vendor tie-ups so replenishment was shorter, cheaper and less dependent on a single source.
- 03Tidied the operating picture a buyer would inspect — what sells, what it costs, who does what, what happens on a normal week.
- 04Prepared the handover so the transition did not rest on the owner staying involved.
The outcome
- The business sold for ₹25 lakh — ₹8 lakh above the offers on the table before the work began.
- Working capital was freed from stock that was not earning.
- Replenishment moved to shorter, local cycles, improving both cost and availability.
What this shows
You do not get a better price by negotiating harder. You get it by removing the reasons a buyer has to discount you — and those reasons are almost always operational.
